Director Dallas Jenkins discusses the first couple days of editing…
- Shooting a big scene on the 17th floor landing.
- Putting the dolly on the track for a smooth move during a long shot.
- Last minute director adjustments before a dinner table scene is filmed.
- During driving scenes the sound mixer trails behind remotely capturing the dialogue.
- Ben Walker brokes a major business deal.
- Cast and crew all applaud whenever an actor is “show wrapped” (they’re done shooting all their scenes).
- Bugs will fly to the 17th floor to find the only lights around.
- Even the mundane tasks are important; here props are prepared for the board room scene.
- Taylor and Kevin rehearse a scene while crew watches and figures out where to put camera and lights
- Our digitial imaging technician Scott downloads and logs the footage during shooting.
- Preparing a board room scene we shot at night to look like day.
- Worst part of doing props and production design–preparing food scenes.
Dallas talks about how scenes are edited and shows a scene coming together between Debby Ryan and Kevin Sorbo.
- “Ben Walker” preaching a sermon when he hasn’t set foot in a church in 15 years.
- “Kimberly” showing tickets to “Dylan” for a concert they’ll be going to (first date?)
- Rehearsing (that’s why Kristy and Debby are wearing jackets) a scene where Ben Walker has screwed up again.
- The Walker family (Sorbo, Ryan, and Swanson, with little Taylor snuggled against Swanson) about to be filmed watching a family memories DVD
- Setting up a big scene inside the church. The 100+ year old church we used is no longer operating, open only as a museum on Saturdays.
- Debby Ryan (Kimberly), Kevin Sorbo (Ben), director Dallas Jenkins
- Setting up a shot inside the Walker home
- The camera’s focus settings are impacted by the exact distance from the camera to the subject.
- “Video village,” where the director and several other crew members watch the monitors in a separate room to see what the two cameras see.
